  Coffee plants are known to ___________ wild in East Africa. Sometime before 1000 AD, people who were living in Ethiopia began to use coffee berries to make energy bars. By about 1000 AD, the Ethiopians were selling coffee beans to Islamic traders. The Islamic traders brought the coffee beans back to Arabia. Slowly more and more people heard about coffee, and traders began selling coffee all over the country. Farmers started to ___________ coffee and they did their best to keep anyone else from get any coffee plants. That's because they hoped to earn more money. By 1453, some people figured out how to roast the beans and make coffee into a drink.
